he guys,

good to hear the Amahi 7 release. Sounds like a lot of good stuff. I really like to upgrade my HDA to Amahi7, but have some questions I can find the nswers too.

I currently have this system
System: 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 , i386
Platform: 6.1.0-1
Core: 4.1.5-1

mainboard: iDOT PCM7E with onboard VIA-C7 Esther 1500MHz @ 1.50 GHz
memory: 2 x 500MB
my questions:

1. is this hardware suitable for running Amahi7? I read somewhere that only 64bits is supported?

2. I have close to 1 terabyte in files I want to move. what is the best way to save/move/import these files to the new install?

I think your system should be ok. It's at the low end, so might be a little slow. You can check Fedora's web site for minimum hardware requirements as well.

As for moving data, if you used Greyhole then it's easy. Just unplug that drive when installing Amahi 7. Once you have it completed, reconnect the drive and add it to the storage pool. There is guidance in the wiki for doing this sort of update.

thanks, I will do that. I am using greyhole. two disks in my system of 750GB. But on one of my disks there is also the OS. is that a problem.

You will need to copy any files on the OS disk that are not replicated by Greyhole to the other disk. If you don't, you will lose them.

cool! thats easy. Iĺl erase all unimportant files beforehand and then I just set all shares to duplicate on the second disc. that way I can add the second disc to the new greyholepool of the new install.

Iĺl check the wiki for more info.

thanks for the support.

No problem. Recommend you verify that all your files have made it to the second disk before erasing the first one.

I searched the forums for amahi upgrade and I assume this is wiki you are referring to??

https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Upgrade_your_Distro

It is very minimal and doesn't have a lot of details for the noob/average user. I suggest an update to this wiki better detailing the process.

EDIT:

Also found some useful info here about reconnecting an existing greyhole storage pool after an amahi update.

Yes it probably does. We rely on the user community to help keep the wiki up to date. Our resources are so limited, we just cannot keep up.

I presume you are aware upgrade will be a new install. There is no Amahi upgrade path from Fedora 14 to 19.

Well I wasn't sure if it was a new install or not. I haven't seen anything stating either way and I couldn't tell by your response to the question.

So I will state it plainly: you cannot upgrade from Amahi 6.1 Fedora 14 to Amahi 7 Fedora 19. You must do a complete re-install.

EDIT:
Thanks for all your hard works guys!! Can't wait to test it out on my vm. I'm seeding like a boss too.

I guess all the warnings on the docs site (https://docs.amahi.org) stating "It’s very important to understand that in the Express Disc installation, the first available drive WILL BE COMPLETELY ERASED unless you change the default storage settings!" is not clear.

I will ask that we take your statement and add that to the site. Sometimes we forget that simple is often better :)
