SOLVED: Raid controller difficulties

Hi all

I've had my Amahi box up and running for a few days now and I'm loving it, it's so easy to use compared to some alternative products out there.

I'm now trying to add some more drives to the system but it is failing to detect drives connected to the PCI raid controller, which is a Promise FastTrak TX4, I want to use it in JBOD mode. The card itself is detected but the drives connected to it are not. I'm not too clued up on Linux so I'm not sure what commands to run. I have been following the guide to "add a second hard drive" which works fine for the onboard sata ports.

I'm running a Shuttle FD30 motherboard with 1GB Ram, I've got 2x WD10EARX drives connected to the on-board sata ports and I am trying to add 2x WD20EARS to the Promise TX4 raid card.

I've heard of issues with drives over 2.1Tb having problems but as these are only 2Tb I think they should be fine?

Is anyone able to offer any advice on this one?

From reading the manual for the controller, pressing Ctrl+F on bootup should enter the controller config mode, I am familiar with the procedure from setting up other RAID cards in the past on servers and such but on this one I don't seem to get the option to press these keys, I have tried repeatedly pressing them immediately after turning on the machine but it just boots straight into Amahi without the option to configure drives connected to this card. As I am running low on space at the moment I am keen to get this new drive working and usable within Greyhole as soon as I can

I believe I have solved it now.

I was getting the message "Warning: Have Option Rom can not be invoke" at the end of the BIOS but it was flashing up so quick I couldn't see it. After various steps found online to resolve this, a BIOS update appears to have fixed it and I can successfully enter the configuration screen of the RAID controller.

For the record I am using it in JBOD mode, so no arrays are defined in the controller BIOS so it just presents the drive to the OS as it is.

Strangely enough, previously, my Amahi system would not completely shutdown/restart, it would stop all the services and just sit on a black screen once it had done this but the system would not turn off, I had to hold the power button. After enabling "reset configuration data" in the BIOS (this was before I performed the BIOS update), it now shuts down correctly and reboots.

Currently waiting for a 2TB drive to format with CFDISK, I may be waiting a while....
