New install with Ubuntu Server

Postby ksquires » Tue Aug 07, 2012 8:41 am

Hope you can help I am migrating from WHS to Amahi or at leat trying.

I am running a BT Home Hub 2 router which is currently my DHCP server, I have installed Ubuntu Server with just the core system which goes fine. I know my network is working because I can also download and install the Amahi repo. I enter the code that wa sent to me by Amahi for he configuration file and it goes well.

When I reboot however I find that as my router is still DHCP the server gets a dynamic IP from that not the one that the config file assigned, but I can boot to the command prompt and login to the Ubuntu console.

I cannot seem to get into the web control of Amahi HDA and if I turn off the DHCP of my router the Amahi doesnt seem to be dishing out addresses and I am not sure what to do ?

I have tried eveything all i know is with router DHCP is skips through bootup fine and when i do nslookup hda it find it. If I turn off the DCHP router the boot up of Ubuntu hangs at network config and then says it will continue without full network. Why surely a server that has a config file thats static assigned shouldnt need to wait for a network.

You might try the network troubleshooter.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting

When you turn off DHCP on your router, the clients often need the DHCP lease refreshed. Depending on your network setup, it might require a complete network reboot.

I have had experiences where I had to shut down all the clients and only have router and HDA on initially to get them in sync. Every router and network is different.

I sorted that out I am not sure if it was..

a) I didnt use a sudo command for the sh install-amahi command
or
b) Entering the code in lowercase

either way I did a re-install doing the above and it worked.

Neither of those should have mattered. However, maybe something did not install correctly the first time. Glad you sorted it out.
