System restarting and shutting down

Postby gastone » Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:55 am

Hi,
I have amahi installed on fedora 14 for quite some time now but recently my system restarts by itself most times repeatidly and shuts down for no apparent reason.
Is there a log i can check to see what happens?
Since Amahi devs will be working on F17 some time soon i would prefer not to reinstall everything on F14 again in order to solve my problem.
Could an upgrade to F16 help me even temporarily?
Thanks
Kostas

Look in the /var/log folder. Also, I have seen this happen in the past with other OS and it was due to power supply or other hardware going bad. Not saying that is your issue, but just a thought. Are you using Amahi Energy Saver? If so, that could be the cause.

Upgrading to Fedora 16 is not recommended as we have ceased development so it's not complete. There are not many apps available and no support. If you must reinstall, I would suggest you choose Ubuntu or Fedora 14.

There may be someone smarter than me that knows exactly what your issue could be.

There are quite a lot of log files so i'm not sure what to check.
Anyway my system now just restarts and doesn't load at all. Is there any way i can get it started even without gui and check my shares settings from my pc using remote desktop (tight VNC) or through the amahi dashboard?
Thanks again

Well i managed to get it started for a few minutes, enough at least to write down my shares.
When i first installed Amahi i had some issues with greyhole so i disabled it and set up myself where my shares will be.
For examble my "Music" is in var/myserver/files/drives/drive1/Music and all other shares i have assigned to other drives (5 drives in total)
Since i have no prior experience with ubuntu, my question is if i disconnect everything and install amahi on ubuntu will i be able to use my old drives and will the address var/myserver/files/drives/drive1/Music still lead to "Music"????
My boot drive is 1Tb and holds quite a lot of my "user" files. Is it possible not to lose them if I install ubuntu on this drive without formating the partition that the files are on??? or are the files not on a seperate partition?
Thanks!!!

You can reconnect the drives in a new install. The shares will not point to the drives unless you change them manually. It appears you had done that initially as all shares are in /var/hda/files.

I would recommend you document all your shares and current paths before doing a reinstall. Since you added drives, ensure they are disconnected when installing the OS and Amahi. Once all is up and working, create the shares and then reconnect the drives. Once the drives as back in place, you can then remap the shares as you did before.
