Amahi inside openvz container on Proxmox Hypervisor

The title says it all. I have been using Proxmox since the day it cam out of beta for both home use and clients. absolutely powerfull. for those who do no know what it is www.proxmox.com

I am a long time amahi User I think my first install was fedora 9. Since 10 i have been running it in a vm with great success.
I am not a programmer but i do poke at things until they work. I have recently started to pay more attention to the OPENVZ container side of proxmox and set out to port some of my exisiting linux vm`s over to it. The benifits of openvz compaired to KVM virtualbox or VMWARE are great.

First vm conversion was Mythbuntu 11.04 master backend.. easy peasy including passing hd capture cards to the vm.

Second AMAHI not so easy.

here is what works
dashboard and all features =no errors no problems
greyhole =works no problem
samba shares =work no problem (over 100 mbs transfer not to shabby)
dhcp =works
dns =works
mysql =works
install apps =works

here is the catch. allthough i can install web apps they dont work. but they do

example if i install the webmin app and click the dashboard link for it i get page not found. however if i give the host address:10000 it works just fine

i installed amahitunes same deal. i can goto hda:3689 and i can see the mtdaapd page
apps that do not uses a specific port cannot be view this way.

I hope to resolve all of these issues and provide a howto for others in the wiki

it feels like the DNS or some other network forward isn't working right.
have you added the necessary port-forwards on your governing router?
Try the Amahi network troubleshooter... see what it tells you. Post the results.

What virtual network interface scheme did you use?


Your post excited me when I saw it.... I'm trying to decide between Proxmox2 or ESXi5 as my host for my Amahi and Windows servers.

Could I kindly trouble you to post some screenshots of your storage hierarchy or layout? I'm wondering how greyhole plays within a virtual drive/storage system.

what VM specs did you use for Amahi? have you run DLNA successfully?
