Hey all. I asked this same question over on the Fedora forums but haven't gotten any help yet. thought I'd try here.
I'm trying to set up a Home server on an old desktop I had around. (2.88GHz, 1gb ram, 180gb HD).
I already screwed up the installation twice by using a live cd rather than the full DVD. But the main problem I'm having (which I've run into each time) is the error I get trying to add the Amahi repo. It doesn't look like the network is working maybe? The error is; "Unable to read package metadata from repository.... ... .. Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) etc etc"
I know the router works, I know the wired connection on the desktop works. It had WinXP on it a few hours ago and was fine. Is there anything I can do without having to skip this step. From what I've read if this doesn't get done during the initial install it can cause problems? Any help appreciated.
Fedora14 DVD w/ Amahi Setup
Re: Fedora14 DVD w/ Amahi Setup
Did you apply the OS updates after the Fedora install?
You should do that before installing Amahi.

The FAQ states:

Code: Select all
» Is it best to allow the system to update before setting up my HDA or should I setup first?
We DO NOT recommend you apply all updates before the Amahi install. The reason is that we test more heavily against the FULL DVD of the distro.
We should note that due to stability considerations, we turn off all non-Amahi automatic updates that the system has. We don't want unsuspecting users to be unpleasantly surprised by updates that happen behind the scenes. You can (and should periodically) update.
Re: Fedora14 DVD w/ Amahi Setup
I had the same issue and discovered that Fedora 14 does not perform DNS correctly during the install process when connected to a home router. In order for the install to find the repository I needed to hook the server directly to my internet modem.
Re: Fedora14 DVD w/ Amahi Setup
I don't believe that is true for all. I have installed many times as well as several other users with a router in place. No issues.
