Can't access the HDA from any machine

Postby LeoHic » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:40 am

Greetings,

I've been reading about and planning to deply an Amahi HDA for a few months, and now i've finally took the leap in doing it. Followed the guides to installing Fedora 14 and Amahi and everything went smoothly up to that.

Problem is, I have internet connectivity in the HDA and other PCs around the house, but they don't communicate. Other shared PCs see each other, but not the HDA.

I tried reserving the HDA's IP in the router's DHCP but it never assigns that address to the HDA (routers DHCP range is 100-150; the HDA is set to 125 but it is always assigned 101 or 102, depending on which devices are connected).

Tried turning the router's DHCP off and let the HDA do all the job, but when I renewed the client's IP I ended up with no internet connectivity and still no access to the HDA (which could still browse the net), although the router was reachable. I also tried fixing the DNS server on other clients but to no success.

My network is set like this:

Internet --- Modem (D-Link DSL-500BII) --- Router (Linksys WRT150N) --- HDA(wired)/Windows7 PC(wireless)/WindowsXP PC(wired)/other devices

I already tried the Network Troubleshooting guide in the Amahi Wiki to no success, so I'd really appreciate your helping me with this.

Thanks a lot in advance and I'm really excited with my newly installed HDA!

Ok, first of all the router DHCP and DNS server needs to be off. Then renew the IP on all clients to enable them to receive the DHCP lease from the HDA.

Also, enable advanced settings on the HDA, via the settings tab. Then ensure you make the work group for the HDA match your clients. The HDA area for Work groups is under the Shares tab I believe.

This sounds like a classic case of the clients not receiving their DHCP reservation from the HDA. Recommend you check the wiki as well for additional assistance.

your client is not using the correct gateway and/or DNS server. It should be pointing to the router as the gateway and HDA as the DNS.

look in the control panel online and make sure that the default gateway configured there is the iP address of your router. also make sure the subnet mask matches what is configured on the router,

Thanks a lot for the quick replies. I couldn't tinker around with the network last night but I'll try to do it tonight.
