A bunch of questions, I suppose

So, I recently built a small form factor box with a core i3 processor and GIGABYTE GA-H55N-USB3 mini-itx form factor motherboard along with 2 WD 2GB drives. There is no optical drive in my system. Mostly because the board doesn't have an IDE port and I don't have any SATA optical drives laying around. I also feel that it's pretty unnecessary. But I digress.

I was able to successfully install from a USB drive on top of fedora 14. Unfortunately, there were no notes on those installation instructions that indicated apps weren't publicly available for F14 yet.

So I resigned myself to installing F12 from a USB drive, however I seem to be having many difficulties since the graphical installer won't start. Once the initializing hardware screen comes up, I just get a blank screen and the only way to restart my system is with the reset button. I presume that F12 does not have the correct support for the onboard graphics as implemented in my Core i3 processor.

linux nomodeset

will start the text installer, but F12 does not seem to install correctly that way anyway.

So, unless there is some easy way to get F12 running on this system, I guess I would rather just wait for full F14 support. After digging around some more, it seemed that this was coming at the end of 2010. Are we close to f14 support for amahi or is there any updated timeline for this?

As for the status of Fedora 14, it we will be releasing an alpha version in the upcoming weeks. There is no definite time line as of yet, but we are diligently working to get things done.

Please understand we are a very small team of volunteers and currently overwhelmed with Fedora 12 maintenance and the development of Fedora 14. We will do our best to get an alpha release out as soon as possible.

We will announce it in the forums, by email, and progress can be followed in the wiki.

I had wiped out my fedora system and instead had to use unetbootin instead to put the express iso onto a usb drive.

Everything seemed to be going fine with the visual installer (installation completed successfully).

Upon reboot however I ran into some kind of problem and fedora will not start.

I can't really tell what is happening, but once I boot up there are three lines that flash at the top of the screen very quickly.
They look something like this:
[drm:intel
[drm:intel
[drm:intel

There might also be something like u_2_p in there or something along those lines.

It happens so fast that I cannot read what is being displayed in full. After that happens the system locks up and the only way I can restart is with a hard reset.

Well, it seems when I started up this evening the system decided to boot.

I got into Fedora and needed to install 600+ updates in addition to following the steps for installing all of the amahi files because the installer wouldn't start.

Now my fedora crashes before the login screen comes up. I used F1 to escape from the flash screen, and my boot is getting stalled on this error:

Starting amahi-installer: PHP Warning: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on your system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EST/-5.0/no DST' instead in /usr/bin/greyhole on line 39.

Anywho, I'm going to try another re-install and see if things go better this time around. But just wondering what would have caused the above error.

This is a now problem for Fedora 14. As I mentioned, Fedora 14 is not ready for production so there will be problems. Its currently in alpha status.

This is happening to me with following the fedora 12 express installation instructions that you supplied the other day.

I am selecting "install amahi headless - graphic installer" from the menu when booting from the USB drive.

Fedora 14 is no where to be found on the current installation.

Perhaps something was broken after manually installing the updates on Fedora 12.

After reinstall, things seem to be working...for some reason my network interface needs to be manually started, so I need to look into that. I also had to manually start the amahi installer service so i could connect to localhost:2000

Now when running the installer it seems stuck on 30%. It hasn't done anything for about 10 minutes. I guess that's it for me for tonight and will have to start again tomorrow evening.

After a reboot, it seems like installation is proceeding normally. This has been one of the most nonlinear and unexplainable experiences I've ever had with computing.
