Installation issue, with solution?

I have been wrestling with installing Amahi in a VM Player virtual machine on Windows 7 for the last few days (in between wrapping Christmas presents) and it was going nowhere until I did a "yum update" and got F12 updated to the latest spec.

Before the yum update, it would stop at 51%, when it was activating the HDA.

I think this step should probably go between the last two points on the installation instructions page: http://www.amahi.org/instructions/configure_fedora

I am not sure which update fixed it, but there were 500MB of updates that it ploughed through!

Not sure what the issue was, but could have been the latest platform issue that we released yesterday.

http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2196

Adding a step to update Fedora 12 with all the latest patches IS NOT the answer. Amahi is built and tested on a Fresh Fedora install with no updates. So, by design the updates are not needed and intentionally left out of the install instructions. In my opinion it was the issue mentioned above that caused your install problem. The updates you performed just happened to coincide with the release of the patch, which is pushed automatically to all existing users.

The question of whether to update or not is left up to the users for various reasons. Amahi will run without updates to any of the core Fedora software for the most part. When updates to the Amahi core are released, it automatically updates any Fedora dependencies needed.

Unfortunately, sometimes things break. However we quickly react and fix it. Sorry if it caused you any inconvenience.

No problem. I am trying it in a VM for these very reasons. I plan to upgrade my server in the new year, and Amahi looks like a good layer to put on top of Fedora.

I think I had read somewhere that updates were not needed, which is why it took me so long to try running an update.

Thanks for the response!

No problem. Recommend you follow the guidance in the wiki for installing Fedora and Amahi on a VM. It has been tested thoroughly and works well.

I use VMs for packaging and testing apps.
