The instructions for installing a new, custom, web application seem incorrect.

The instructions I found online indicate there should be a link to add a new webapp, but my "apps" page doesn't have the link. Is there a feature that needs to be enabled?

Hmm. I enabled "advanced settings" and it looks like the tab appeared. I was able to create a new webapp for Magento, and will try installing it now.

We need to add something to the wiki about advanced settings. As for Magento, we have it packaged for Amahi if you would like to test.
