Hey out there....
I'm a bit green when it comes to Fedora so pardon my newness....
I'm having difficulty getting a RocketRAID driver to work on Fedora. According to some Fedora posts, it's possible to "make" a driver with the present kernel using one of the Open Source tarballs on the highpoint-tech.com web site.
I can move the tarball over and uncompress it to the folder on the fedora system, but I can't seem to get make to build me the custom file.
Anyone have the patience to give me a bit of step-by-step help?
Thanks,
Scott

Have you tried google or Fedora forums? I am sure someone here may be able to assist.

Re: Rocket RAID 2640-4 driver for Fedora 12
I can see why there is so much interest in Ubuntu. "make/make install" creates the file alright specific to the kernel but getting a clean install is a bit of a challenge.
In general, installing a source file driver from scratch is not for the timid...or faint of heart. This Fedora is still like the old RedHat but with a few twists. I even found an article with a fellow from Australia who was going back to Windows.....I can understand this with most non-tech folks. I love the idea of this home server and I have some marvelous ideas but quite frankly, I need to get better at Linux in general. My experience with Ubuntu has been very good. The one I'm most familar with is FreeBSD. Anyway enough of my complaining.
Yes....I found some articles but they are void of some critical details and the posts that are relevant are a bit dated.
However, I have made some progress and will hopefully share the "how to" with others who may come across this. It takes a fair bit of odd install sequences, but by in large, I finally got it to work. I will repeat it again so that I can provide the details.

Cool....glad you were able to get it working. Things can be tough when you have unique hardware and limited skills. I am no linux expert, but have been able to make most things work.
We would appreciate you sharing your experience in the wiki. I am sure there will be others with similar issues.

Re: Rocket RAID 2640-4 driver for Fedora 12
Success!
I am very close as I now have a 4TB RAID for this beast! But I have some questions.
Here's my setup:
1. Boot Drive - 500MB
2. RAID array - 4TB
So:
1. When logged on to the HDA, I can see the main boot drive under the "Storage" tab.
2. When I select "Disks", I can see my RAID.
3. All the directories are //HDA/photos, etc.
4. How are these directories moved, mapped, mounted, etc. to the RAID?
Thanks in advance....I'm almost there.

Re: Rocket RAID 2640-4 driver for Fedora 12
So...I followed the wiki post regarding the second hard drive and yes, I show all the extra partitions.
Now I don't understand why when I go to the GNOME desktop and click My Computer, I don't see these partitions...just the "filesystem" and "CD ROM". They are all mounted but for whatever reason, I can see these 3 partitions I assigned to the RAID.
They are:
1. /var/hda/files/drives/drive4
2. /var/hda/files/drives/drive5
3. /var/hda/files/drives/drive6
I left the orginal books, video, music, photos shares alone so they are all on sdba still as the originals but I can't figure out why the desktop doesn't see them as mounted....
However, I am very, very, close to finishing the better part of this so all is rather good....
thx.
