Can't print

Really a bummer. This is for when logged on as a Domain (PDC) user.

I can't print directly, I get some error or other.

I can't connect to the printer share, I don't have a policy for it, and can't figure out how to add the policy.

It looks like I COULD connect to the printer as a local user. It got past the policy block and was asking for the driver for the printer.

I am at quite a lose. I am asking about this on the Samba mailing list, but I would not be surprised if the issue is the OEM installed version of XP (from a used computer resaler even though the box lists a ligit license #).

So I am at a standstill for a bit until I get help figuring this one out.

Hmmmm....did ya try installing the printer driver locally to the machine. There is guidance in the wiki about setting the print share for this other wise it will try to get it from the share location.

Just a thought.

A local user can print with no problem. The problem is with a "domain user" (thus only someone running in PDC mode would see this).

The instructions on the Wiki work fine for a local user just mounting shares, It does NOT work due to policy blocks for a domain user.

There HAS to be a solution to this. Perhaps over at the SME site I can get some help.

Has anyone that is running a PDC here with XP Pro clients gotten printing to work and if so how?

I got the following pointer from the Samba mailing list:

Have a look at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Impleme ... with_Samba
This explains deployment of system policy through samba 3.X. It also outlines the difference between system policy and group policy
You can still use Local Group Policy (through gpedit.msc), but as the name suggests its local to every machine, and not deployable from the Domain Controller.

So now I just have to figure out what policy to implement...

I got this solved.

Since this is a PDC, I had to log in as a PDC admin user and THEN install the printer drivers.

I will be submitting a bug report and updating some wiki pages.
