Is there an app screen for running yum update or are users expected to know how to run this from a command line?

I did a search of the Wiki for "yum update" and did not find any wise words on running it.

Also has anyone set up an scheduled running of yum update? I do seem to recall seeing threads on this in the past in the forum, but I did a search here in the forum, and I did not find a hit (might have been how I searched). I did look in the various /etc/cron.* directories and did not see anything obviously running yum update.

What is the collected wisdom of scheduled yum updates and how frequently?

as to the cron: depends on how paranoia you are, but either weekly or daily should be good enough. you can run the "normal" yum periodically by hand if needed.

There were earlier discussions when Amahi was still on FC11, but this is a good starting point.

I know it is not enough to just pull down the latest security patches, sometimes you HAVE to reboot (especially with new kernels), and automating reboots is scary.

Amahi definitely needs some guidance on updates. At least a wiki page; would all Amahi users be expected to know about yum?

You can manage updates through webmin. It allows you to schedule them and control which ones to install. That's what I am using now.

If anyone wants to add something to the wiki, that would be greatly appreciated.

I have been playing with local repos lately. I have some scripts I am gonna post in the wiki eventually for anyone interest in setting it up. The Fedora updates take almost 25GB of my drive, so need lots of space.

I have done a lot with local repos. I have bulit install repos, then boot off the 1 of CD and add askmethod to the start string and point to my local server. This is a lot faster than reading a CD or DVD. I have also done update repos. I have a sync that I have used, but never automated. And right now I do not have the disk space for a full update repo...
