Definitely not an advanced user... I'm smarter than that... lol
I'm trying to switch over to Linux from Windows... Had nothing but problems trying to set up a server with Ubuntu.
Not that Ubuntu was the issue, main problem is the documentation and help from the so called "advanced" users.
Seems most of the help I got was from ordinary users that actually know how to explain things in a clear format that
everyone can understand. If you want people to switch from Windows, then explain things to them in a helpful way,
so they don't have to Google answers or find them on youtube...

Trying my luck now with Fedora and Amahi.
I did notice that the first install package for hda(64meg) took a long time to install on 2 install attempts.
Last attempt had an error with downloaded package. On retry it worked.
No modifications done, and no updates. Had same issues.

I am in the GUI and opened Terminal, as per instructions on the website.
Then typed su - <my username> hda-install <install code>

ok... originally typed:
su - then password
hda-install >>> did not work???

Then tried all on one line >>> did not work

This time around entering each command separate again.
It is now installing the packages.
So I'm concluding that something in one of the updates or a glitch or maybe human error... hmmmm
a lot of selinux errors popped up
Will give it a try tomorrow and see how things go.

Best regards James

ah, ok so it's actually the complete opposite. :)

yes, the su - needs to be typed first (then Enter)

the the password (followed by Enter)

then hda-install YOURCODE (followerd by Enter)

we're trying to do away with that one step, yes.

thanks for your patience.

Well... after the install, I rebooted. Everything seems to be working, except one small detail.
The icon for eth0 has disappeared and I cannot access the internet.
I was able to access the internet before rebooting.

Under System>>>Administration>>> Network Device Control It shows eth0 as being active.

In the setup there is only one router, but right now to get the Amahi system up and running,
I have another router connected after it, so I can access the internet with both machine.
the main router is in another part of the building, and I would have to run another line.
Tried the Netgear switch, but it didn't work for some reason, so I used the other router I have.
Have used both settings: DHCP Server Enabled and Disabled.
This system is obviously accessing the internet, but the Amahi Server is not.

Do I need to disconnect this system temporarily and run a direct line from the Amahi Server to the
main router?
On the main router, it wants DHCP Disabled. Not an issue for me, but there are 2 other people that
are using the same router. Will it affect their ability to surf and access email? I'm thinking not.

It's not that I'm too lazy to search for a solution to this...
I'm in school full time and working on the side and volunteering...
I don't have a lot of time to troubleshoot. Did this for weeks with Ubuntu.
Just want to get it working so I can see how it works.
If it works great, I am looking at using it for a non profit website for sharing information on health issues.
I'll keep searching on google.
thanx for your help and feedback... much appreciated!

James
