Gnome Desktop

Postby jimbop99 » Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:02 pm

Hi all. I've been playing around with Amahi for a few months now. I started off with an old computer and then built a new one with a 1TB drive. It works very well and I'm always experimenting with it. When I built the new computer I installed with the express CD. Everything went off without a hitch and it runs beautifully 24/7. I decided I wanted the desktop back, so I followed the instructions on the wiki page. During the last step "yum -y system-config-display" I get an X server error. I wish I would have written down more info than that. Any ideas? I'll post more info if needed. Thanks.

I get an X server error
well, we can't really work with that information.
(this should be a pre-requisite to the software to post here in the forums! post details!)

try it again and show the error. it could well be you need some drivers or something, but it's hard to tell with zero information.

Alright:

yum -y groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"

result: installed

yum -y install Xorg

result: xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.6-4.fc12.i686 installed

yum -y system-config-display

result: no such command

Then run system-config-display as root

Result: couldn't start X server on card 0
Error, failed to start X server on card 0
