Will this setup be sufficient? (eee PC netbook)

Postby chashutch » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:35 am

Hi all,

Hoping someone can give me a sanity check before I reformat this hard drive.

I have setup an Amahi server at my church and has been working fine for over a year (file storage and remote access). I am now interested in something similar for my home. Here is what I am thinking:

I have an old(er) eeePC with an atom processor, 2GB, 120GB and a 500GB external USB Drive. It currently has Ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix (which is pretty cool).

Would this netbook be sufficient to sit quietly next to the home router and allow me to save and retrieve files and remote into it.

Thanks for looking,
Hutch

absolutely.
I recommend using the expressCD for a headless install, it's much leaner than the default fedora, but if you're going to use it now en then for browsing or e-mail you can put the full fedora on it (or install your favorite windowmanager in the expressCD install)
