Installation error on "evince-2.22.1.1-1.fc9.i386.rpm'?

Hello!

I can't seem to get the install to work using the directions provided from my control panel to install amahi at the same time as Fedora 9. I get all the way through setting up the partitions, adding the amahi repository, and then it starts installing, but it always dies with this error:

The file evince-2.22.1.1-fc9.i386.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source.

If you exit, your system will be left in an inconsistant state that will likely require reinstallation.

Reboot - Exit

I've run a check on the media (the first part of installation) and it says it's okay. Just to be sure I downloaded another image and burned a separate installation DVD, and I still get this error.

Can anyone help get me past this?

- J.W.

evince is a document viewer that is not used or is not a dependency in amahi, which makes it suspect to your environment.

you can try a few things:

- try a plain fedora 9 install. if that works, then add amahi on top (see self-install on an existing machine)
- it could be memory issues. if the error is not very repeatable (which does not seem to be the case), it could be flaky memory - check your RAM with memx86. if not, then perhaps is your machine limited in memory (say 512mb or below)?
- is there a chance your root partition / is too small to fit the distro as you are installing it? if so, try unchecking things like Office and Productivity, which take a bit of space.

You might want to try a default install of Fedora 9 and add the amahi repo & packages later (instructions on how to do this are HERE).

Let's see if you still get errors, then we have at least isolated the issue to the Fedora or the Amahi install part.

edit: darn, cpg just beat me to it

Thanks all, I seem to have gotten everything installed. The F9 image from fedoraproject.org would install by itself, but not if I added the amahi repository.

What I ended up doing is getting the "respin" of F9 dated 12-17-2008 from fedoraunity.org and following the same instructions except using that image. It installed without a hitch (except for the fact that I had to manually setup grub.conf for some reason)

Thanks again,

that is a great datapoint.

we should probably point people to those images, actually. save hassle.

did it take much longer to download than the regular f9??

if not, maybe we shoud consider doing that, or better yet, producing our own unity-derived images.
