Installation Problem

Postby jncunliffe » Wed Jan 28, 2009 4:55 pm

Hi,

I have installed Fedora 9 as per the instructions on amahi.org. After entering "hda-install xxxxxx" to install amahi things appear to start ok then I get an error, see below.

I'm a total Linux virgin so please be gentle.....

Thanks,

Jon C

interesting.

can you send your hda-install.log to support at amahi dot org for analysis?

did you initialize mysql before hda-install or otherwise change the mysql password or create one ahead of time?

someone the table was not created. we'd like to know how this could happen to fix it!

hda-install.log on the way...

re initialising mysql etc., not to my knowledge. The installation process was exactly as per the website instructions.

Thanks,

thanks for the log file!

this is the issue:

/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.1.1/lib/active_support/core_ext/module/introspection.rb:60: [BUG] Segmentation fault

- Is it possible your system ran out memory, such as if it had a
small (512mb or less) ram, without swap disk, or such.
- Is it possible that the memory in the machine could be flaky?
- One datapoint would be if it's repeatable. If not and you get
another error, it could be memory flakyness. If it is, then
maybe the DVD image is not burned flawlessly (burn it at a
slower speed).

however, before re-installing (which would be best), the recommendation is to hda-install again.

Hi,

Thanks for your response...

Memory wise I've got 2Gb installed and the last time I did a scan (BIOS) it showed no errors, so hopefully it's ok.

The error is repeatable, from a complete fresh Fedora/HDA install. Before raising the query, I had done previous install (Fedora and HDA), from fresh, got this error, re-ran hda-install, it 'appeared' to finish OK but on rebooting I couldn't access http://hda. That's when I started over and stopped at the first error.

The DVD was only burned at 2x. When I installed Fedora I did a media scan and this did not report any errors.

Is there anythign else I can check/do?

Thanks very much for your help...

Problem solved.... Memory fault...!

I'd relied on the 'thorough' BIOS scan to PASS the memory but when I started to get other strange errors I ran MEMTEST. Two out of three of my DIMMS had errors.

Removed them and all ok...

Thanks for your help Carlos.
