DHCP issues

Postby snewlon » Mon May 10, 2010 6:23 am

I got Amahi up and running this past weekend, and think it is going to be great. I am having a weird issue around DHCP though. I have a Linksys WRT110 wireless router that has been the primary DHCP server on my network since I bought it. For the Amahi setup, I disabled it so that Amahi could become the DHCP server.

The issue is that after a period of time (seems like several hours), the Linksys starts handing out addresses again. I go back in to the Linksys settings and enable and disable DHCP again on it, and all is good for a bit. Several hours later the pattern repeats.

Anybody know how I can permanently disable DHCP on the router? I can't get my wife on the Amahi till I resolve this or she will be calling me all day for tech support ;)

what leads you to believe it's the wrt giving out DHCP leases?

you don't say that, and it's crucial information. you do imply that when you go back to the router, it's still disabled.

The machine that purportedly got the lease from the wrt should have more info: ipconfig/all or whatever the client uses to show the ip info can shed some light on the nature of the lease.

there is a package called dhcping to test if there is a dhcp server on a given IP. as root:

Code: Select all

yum install dhcping dhcping 192.168.1.1
assuming your router is in 192.168.1.1.
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1
