DNS Settings

Postby jonathankonrad » Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:01 am

I cannot find where to set the DNS settings.

Right now my desktop machines are pulling IP numbers and such properly form the DHCP server on the Amahi box. They are also reaching the web so Amahi is working as a DNS server too. However, I would like to specify secondary DNS settings. Where can I do that? My desktop machines only show the Amahi box for DNS. In fact it lists it twice and that's all.

Thanks.

Hello!

We used to have a secondary DNS (think it was opendns or something) and it causes too many problems. Biggest among the problems were that the secondary would override the first and cause the web applications to not work as the secondary was not Amahi's DNS for your network.

Cheers!

Ok. I think. But where do I specify the DNS for the Amahi box? I guess I'm ok with my clients only knowing about my Amahi server for DNS, but where do I set up the server DNS settings. I only see IP and Gateway.

I'm running this headless so I'm trying to do "everything" from the Amahi interface. Thanks for any tips.

The DNS for your HDA is done by your HDA. it's sounds like a loop but since the IP is static with your router it doesn't matter.

Have you also tried the webvnc app?

At somepoint Amahi must fail over to other DNS systems. I was just wondering if I could specify that. WebVNC is on my list.

i'm almost sure that any settings you specify will be wiped out automatically on an update.
i actually set some slave zones in bind and they tend to get wiped every so often.
