Installation Problem

Postby andyrigg » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:40 am

I installed Amahi/f12 on an old amd barton core system and it has worked without a single problem for 3 months, I like Amahi and decided I would build a more user freindly set up. I have purchased a Foxconn 45CS Atom motherboard, with 512g Ram and maxtor 500GB hard drive.
Most of the time I cannot get past the Test media stage, I have tried differemt media and downloads, all failing however when I try them in a dufferent machine they all pass, I have tried the DVD drive and Sata cable in other machines and they all pass the media test but back in the Foxconn and they fail.
I did get past the Test stage with a disk last night only to get the following error as the install start, It was

python:Python/ast.c.952: ast_for_ifexpr: Assertion ' (n1->n_nchildren)==5' failed
install exited abnormally (1/1)
you may safely reboot your system

I tried this a couple of more times and had exactly the same error, the next time I tried I had the Test media fail!

I tried the media in another machine and it passed fine.

Can anyone help? Do you think its a motherboard hardware fault?

hmm hard to say. can you try to install (skip the media check)? The installer is quite forgiving for some data corruption on the DVD, there's a lot of errorchecking going on (part of this is why the install takes so long).

You could try booting from a live distro and checking if that works and then check for hardware errors.

When I skip the media check I get the same error and safe to reboot message.

I will try booting from a live distro.

Tried a net install from USB stick message safe to reboot system after downloading img file.

Good news at last - I tried everything over the last couple of weeks. Different hard drives, different ditros, I did get XP to load and work. Anyway to cut a long story short I changed the memory form Dane-Elec to Crucial (which gaurantee compatability with the Foxconn motherboard) and hey presto!

I now have a sillent server using a lot less electric :D
