YES I solved the problem. :D

The reason was this. In my amahi.org profile the domain name I chose was ldqk.local
In the installer screen related to my NIC I also gave the machine name and domain name. In this case I chose for machine name ams and for domain name ldqk.local so the name you saw there was ams.ldqk.local

The solution was as follows.
I removed the installation at amahi.org profile completely because I decided to go with a top level domain .net
So the field Home Domain got the value ldqk.net
In the hda-express install I gave at the network configuration part the complete machine name being
machine.domain the values
ams.ldqk (so without the .net)
the installer did its work and I let it reboot and within 2 minutes it rebooted for the second time.
I did a check and all seems to work. (I'm really glad I gave it this last try although I did not expect it to work).

My conclusion is that you can not use the exact same name you use in your amahi.org for your domain name at the network interface card.

Anyway thanks a lot for the patience and the suggestions Bigfoot65.

Awesome to hear you resolved the problem. Makes sense what you discovered. Hope others will learn from it.

Glad I could be of assistance.

Is it possible to update either the install instructions or the network troubleshoot page?
This info might be useful to others.

Sure. Do you have time to add something to the wiki? We would greatly appreciate it.

OK Bigfoot65 I will do that.
My intention is to update this page: https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Expres ... leshooting

at the section for Amahi 7.

Do I need to create an account at this wiki page to be able to update or can I use my zion2008 account?
Will you (or someone else of the Amahi community) take a look at it afterwards to verify if this is usefull and correctly described?

Thanks! That would be perfect. You will need to register to modify the wiki, but can use the same credentials.

OK the request for access to that wiki page is entered.

Next issue:
When I tried to access my HDA from another computer in my house I got an error page stating "Page could not be displayed" and this was after all my devices were rebooted.

I tried a ping on 192.168.0.10 and it replied correctly.
I did an nslookup of 192.168.0.10 and it replied:

C:\Users\Angelique>nslookup 192.168.0.10
Server: hda.ldqk.net
Address: 192.168.0.10

Naam: hda.ldqk.net
Address: 192.168.0.10

Which looks good to me.
I made an ssh connection to the HDA and saw in /var/log/httpd this

[root@ams httpd]# ls -als
total 12
4 drwx------. 2 root root 4096 Aug 12 22:02 .
4 drwxr-xr-x. 12 root root 4096 Aug 13 18:02 ..
0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Aug 12 22:02 access_log
4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1240 Aug 13 2013 error_log
[root@ams httpd]# cat err*
[Tue Aug 13 23:34:49.543638 2013] [suexec:notice] [pid 474] AH01232: suEXEC mechanism enabled (wrapper: /usr/sbin/suexec)

Any suggestions?

Try the network troubleshooter. Also I presume the client is set to receive DHCP and/or DNS from the HDA, correct?

EDIT: Your wiki account has been approved.

I made the wiki update.
Any suggestions on that?

Yes the client is set to receive DHCP and/or DNS from the HDA.
I did some more snooping around and I noticed that there isn't a http server running.
Should that not be enabled by default?

I will try the network troubleshooter next and post the result.

Yes HTTPD is set to run by default unless there is an error. Might want to check the status or log files.
