Amahi express - expert install

Postby martinierius » Thu Oct 14, 2010 7:39 am

I want to re-install an existing amahi installation because I acidentally deleted the /var folder.
Because I want to keep my existing data partitions I choose following after booting from amahi express cd:
- expert install
- "create custom layout" (partitioning) in stead of "replace existing linux"
- there I re-add the mount points without formatting existing partitions as the partitions itself are not corrupt.

After that I get a message saying: "You have specified that the package 'ruby-irb' should be installed. This package does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort this installation?"If I choose continue I get the same message for following packages: hda-platform, rubygem-fastthread, hda-release, ruby-docs, samba, ruby-devel, ruby-mysql, mysql-server, eruby, rubygem-activerecord, php-mysql, openvpn, dhcp, ruby-libs, ruby-gems, fedora-release, httpd, ruby-rdoc, rubygem-activeresource, rubygem-passenger, rubygem-rails, cadaver, yum-plugin-fastestmirror, boost, hddtemp, ruby-ri, php, eruby-libs, rubygem-actionpack, perl-libwww-perl, dhclient, ruby-bdb, rubygem-actionmailer, rubygem-gruff, rubygem-activesupport, bind, ...

After that I am asked for the amahi install code.
Then a message says: Congratulations, your Amahi installation is complete and I am asked to reboot.

Problem is after reboot the system does not come through, it stays forever at the fedora boot screen after the progress bar has become completely white.

Hello,

Do you have your data on a different drive? If so, install as normal and just ensure you select the correct drive for Fedora. Then add the other drives in afterwards if needed. Fedora may pick them up automatically and mount them.

If your data was in the normal share area, then it is gone. All the Amahi data/shares is in the /var folder.

Maybe I do not understand your predicament, but will try to assist the best I can.

Thanks for trying to help me, it is much appreciated!

I have my data on the same disks as my fedora/amahi installation but in different partitions. It's those partitions that I don't want to format.
The OS was and should now after re-install also be in a partition (200MB) for "/boot" and another partition (4GB) voor "/" .
The data was in two other partitions mounted as /data1 and /data2.

What I observerd was that data added to one of the shares was first added to /var/hda/files/sharename and afterwards distributed between /data1 and /data2 by greyhole (or after manually entering "greyhole --fsck" on commandline)

I don't know if this is even relevant, I just don't understand why the installation gave me the error message regarding the packages not being available.

Update: after a long wait (I've been to my welding course) I was asked to reboot or to select commandline debugging. If I choose to reboot I get to the same point again:

Ya know it might be worth doing the full install versus express. You will have full control and should not have any errors. Not sure what the problem with the express CD is in this case, but might be safer in the long run to go with the long route.

Just a thought.

I really want the small footprint, my server is a dual atom system so everything I don't need, I also don't want to consume space/resources.
Anyway, there is progress, I selected the debug option and got the commandline.
From there I noticed I couldn't use DNS, so mayby those packages did not come from cd but from the internet?

Code: Select all

system-config-network
and changed DNS settings

Code: Select all

ping google.com
Does now work

Code: Select all

ConfigAmahi
Now I waited again while Amahi was being configured and then got the choice to reboot which I did.

Strangely enough I was asked to reboot a few times again, which I did and suddenly there was a message saying I could login with admin/admin and from there on everything went as planned.
