Fedora not using GUI?
Fedora not using GUI?
Hi everyone, I am trying to get Amahi setup on my thinkpad T40 for a home server. The only problem is that when I ran the Fedora 12 install DVD it ran the text installer and didn't give me an option for the graphical installer. During the install it never asked me to check or uncheck packages or add a repository. When I boot from the hard drive all I get is the CLI....Whats going on? I used the DVD torrent from Fedora.....Thanks in advance!
Re: Fedora not using GUI?
Maybe it cannot deal with the graphics card.
You can install Amahi manually after installing Fedora.

When I was testing in VMware, I had a similar issue. I noticed that if I bumped up the RAM, I got a GUI but if I had a low RAM count, I got the text version of the installer. It could be your graphics card or your RAM. If you have on-board graphics, you may have enough RAM until some of it gets reserved for video and therefore knocking the count down. For instance, I don't recall what the breaking point was for me but, say it was 512-MB of RAM. You may have 512-MB but if some of it gets reserved for video, your system memory ends up being 448-MB while your on-board video reserves 64-MB.
