Live CD Install

Postby iamgeniusrnti » Sat May 22, 2010 10:19 am

Folks, quick question,

I am using an old Dell Poweredge 2450 I bought off craigslist. It only has a CD Rom, no DVD. Are the CD Rom instructions found here http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Self-install-livecd still relevant?

I'll have to go that route unless someone has a better idea:(

Thank you for your valuable time!

Not sure if it will work. I think we tried to beef up the dependencies, and it may work somewhat. You may have to install a few things by hand. Otherwise stick the hard drive on a system with a DVD drive and before the first reboot at the end of the install, put it in the destination machine.

Long story short, that isn't possible. SCSI drive...only one computer with DVD...IDE bus.

I tried to do the live install and it simply petered out during the install. All I got was a blue bar take it's sweet tiome going across the bottom. Then once it got to the end, it simply sat there. I am going to try the 5 disc CD install next. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to wait for a different computer to come my way. I have a PC I know it will work on, but I really want to use old rack servers as they take a lot less space.

I may just have to abandon this and look at playing with CENTOS or something...
