Upgrade from 4 to 5.1 and use a different machine

Postby steveblakemore » Tue Jan 19, 2010 12:07 pm

Hi,

I've been running HDA for about 3 months now. I like it! I've bought a new machine to put it on. My dilemma is about how to move from one to the other. I'm running v4, but would like to install 5.1 onto the new machine. Should I switch the old one off before I start, and use the same local IP address and install code? If I do it that way, how will I transfer calendar settings? Will the subscriptions continue to work if I use the same IP address? Should I use the same machine name?
How about transferring other settings like users? Actually I only have two so that won't be a big deal to set them up again from scratch, but I don't know one of the passwords, so would like to transfer if possible.
Will the VPN still work as it did before on a new box?

All help appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

You probably won't be able to upgade from f10 amahi 4 to f12 amahi 5.1 although a few people have been able to. Its best to do a fresh install.

I would make a back up of you db with phpmybackup (a amahi app) or one of the others we have, save it to a jump drive or disk. Install 5.1 on your new machine, install the apps that you have on your 4 machine and then import the db settings back into the 5.1 db, not sure if that will cover the calendar stuff though.
Hope this helps

Does the backup of the db include user settings and passwords?
