I can't get it to work

Postby oscar615 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:13 pm

I have installed several times. Following the instructions here to the tee. http://wiki.amahi.org/images/0/08/Amahi_manual.pdf I takes 3 times as long to install this way than a normal fedora installation. Never asks to create a user. So when it finally does finish installing I cannot log in as anything. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do or what I am doing wrong? When will I create users? What is the default user? It comes up to the login screen with the only option being "other". Then from there I have tried just about every user/password combo I can think of. Should I be selecting some different choices in the fedora setup? Such as webserver? I have deselected "office and productivity" as the instructions say to do. I have added the http"//f10.anahi.org to the repostories. Literally I have been through the entire process 4 times following the instructions word for word. Please help.

oscar615, please use these install instructions instead of the manual.

That manual you link to is not maintained and written for the previous version of Amahi.

I think you may be installing on Fedora 9?

Please come by the irc channel and we will help you. We would like to understand how you got where you got so that we improve things and others do not have to go through the same (awful!) experience.

Installing Amahi should be a one-shot install, not 4!!

Ok, Today I reinstalled with the dvd and it worked or at least it boots to the desktop now.. But now I am the step on page 4 of the install instructions. I type the command in with my code in the brackets.

To complete the install, enter the following commands at the bash$ prompt. You need the root password for the first one:
su -
hda-install [install code]

I get the response that my code is not a valid install code.

So what is next.

Checking the logs I see you were missing a letter in the install code, that's why.
I sent you a PM.

I finally got it all installed. And it seems to be working, somewhat. I can log in. It will open the dashboard. But it will not open the setup page. I cannot browse the web or get any of the applications. When I try to get applications it tells me"application error Rails application failed to start properly" and when I try to browse the web I get "address not found". So what is the next step to get amahi working properly? Thanks for everyones help.

One other thing I just noticed is that when I log into my control panel on the amahi.org site I see that under the ip address I have a swirling circle. Like it the computer is thinking. And under the status box it says "waiting to install". So what is up there? Could that be part of my problem? It does have my nickname listed though...
