Installing on an SSHD?

Postby alscara » Thu May 21, 2015 11:36 pm

I'm trying to install Amahi on a seagate 1TB SSHD. It only appears as one drive and I don't see anything about the 8GB cache. Does it automatically find the 8GB and install to it or would it just grab the most comfy cluster on the drive and set up shop there?

I honestly have no clue. You might try using the Amahi 7 Full DVD method instead. Most likely Fedora 19 would support that type of drive and give you a bit more control over the partitioning.

The hybrid drive appears as one device, not two, to the computer. This is why you don't see a separate small SSD.

The solid state portion of the drive is managed by the drive's firmware, not the OS. The chips are really just an oversized and nonvolatile cache. The drive's firmware moves frequently accessed files to the solid state portion of the drive automatically, it's not something you or the OS controls.
