Headless Install

Postby gavinjb » Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:44 am

Hi,

I am currently doing a trial install using Virtual Box before I do a real install, but am having a few issues that I hope someone can help with.

I am currently running Ubuntu Server (with no X), and during install have noticed a couple of errors which are as follows.

Code: Select all

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'amahihda'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Code: Select all

install-amahi: 89: install-amahi: cannot create /home/gavin/Desktop/Amahi-Dashboard-Home.desktop: Permission denied
The second error I am not too worried about as I would imagine this is due to not having X installed so no Desktop exists.

but the first is more worrying, also after installing when I go to the website my Status is still at waiting install.

As this is a headless Server, I have changed my DNS record on my desktop to the IP of the Server 192.168.0.140 and tried entering http://hda, but I just get a message about google not being able to find it.

anyone able to help.

Thanks,

Gavin,

Did you follow the installation guidance at http://docs.amahi.org? Also check /root directory for the hda install log. There may be a clue there as to what is wrong.

Seems as if you either have a bad install or the user name you are using could be incorrect.

Thanks, from the log file I found the problem was due to me opting to install mySQL as part of the Ubuntu install (and as such creating a password, when it expects no password, is this secure)

Only problem now is I get to the main hda screen and it is asking me for a username & password, but as part of the install I was not asked to create one!

Also is it possible to set this up so I can connect from my other PC's to the web interface without changeing the DNS or using the DHCP on the server as I would prefer to stay with using this on my Router?

EDIT: Must have mis read something as just tried with DNS using my router on PC and I am connecting fine to HDA fine.

Sounds like you did not follow the install instructions. You must follow them and do a default install as indicated. If you do not, things will not work correctly.

Also to get the most out of the HDA, best to let it do your DHCP and DNS server duties. Recommend you reinstall and use the guidance provided. You can change things after the Amahi install, but not before. I am afraid we cannot help much if you deviate from the default install.

I followed the install instructions, but have since realized that if I entered my linux username in the logon box with no password, I could get access.

After playing with it for a few minutes, I can see it has potential, but unfortuantely not what I am after, thanks for your help.

Should have needed password. Might need to check into that more.

I am sorry to hear Amahi will not work for you.
