Can't Login After Install

Postby thefuzz4 » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:18 pm

So I just got done with my initial install of Amahi. I installed it on a VMWare ESXi server in the headless mode. After fedora did its initial install all I had was just my local root user. So I installed openssh-server so I could ssh into the server. Followed all of the steps for the setup with headless. I can now get to the login screen via web browser. But I cannot for the life of me login through the WEBUI. I'm not sure where else to go with it at the moment. If there is a way via command line I can create a user for Amahi or anything that would be great. Thanks.

Hello,

The login credentials is the one your created after the initial install of Fedora 14. Do not create any users via command line or Amahi may not pick them up. Best to do so from the dashboard.

We do not officially support this type of install, however I'd bet there are some users who have similar setups that can assist.

So what I ended up doing was downloading and installing webmin and created a user through webmin. Once I did this I was able to login to my amahi just fine. The problem with the installer was that I followed the steps and selected minimal install so no X server was ever installed and thus Fedora never asked me to create a user after the installation was completed. Once I had webmin installed and created the user I gave myself root and adm rights and Amahi picked up the new user just fine. So now I'm up and running, time to go have some fun and also figure out how to mount NFS shares with Fedora. I'm a Ubuntu/Solaris user so I must admit that I do have some learning to do when it comes to rpm based distros. Thank you for your help and I hope that perhaps my reply will help others who face the same true headless install.

not having x-server installed at very least to do VNC with the amahi/fedora tends to make things difficult as sometimes it's just nice (for me at least) to look at the desktop to see what's goin on.

Were there any particular settings you used when you setup the VM for Fedora/Amahi? how did you arrange storage drives?
