Method for moving to new hardware

Postby wachuwamekil » Sat Dec 10, 2011 5:36 pm

I currently have an older server level board running my Amahi system, the system is sold but loud as heck (long story but P4HT on a 1U board)

I now have a newer, more powerful system that I would like to migrate my existing settings and things to. I was going to simply install a new copy of Amahi HDA on the new hardware and migrate my files over. Is there a better way to do this, I would like to not lose the apps that I have previously installed if at all possible.

Let me know what y'all think.

The only way I am aware is to backup the old box using Clonezilla and then restore on the new one.

http://clonezilla.org/

Other than that, there are so many moving parts that it would be difficult to capture them all.

I would recommend a fresh install on new hardware. But if you want to try the image then re-image way, I would suggest you use www.redobackup.org.

This is my prefered imaging software. Its very easy to use (all GUI). and its free!!
