Trying to do an expresscd install and am getting the following error
"
Unable to read package metadata. This may be due to a missing repodata directory. Please endure that your install tree has been correctly generated.
Cannot retrieve repository metatdata (repomd.xml) for repository Fedora14 updates. Please verify path and try again.
"
Tried editing the original repo data
https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released-f14&arch=i386

Seems that's where the issue is
tried the following mirrors,
http://mirror.umd.edu/fedora/linux/updates/14/i386/
http://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/fedora/linux/updates/14/i386/
but ended up with dependency errors and installation halted.
any suggestions on a working repo? thanks

Quite honestly, I would recommend you do the Full DVD install. You can install it as headless as well and typically there are less issues.
If you must install Express CD, recommend you check the Fedora web site for other repos in your area.

Re: expresscd install problem - Fedora 14-updates repo error
I actually tried doing the Fedora 14 install beforehand and kept getting errors at the point of copying data to disk. Tried a couple of different media. cleaned the media and even swapped out the dvd drives. Still the same problem along that route.
and as noted in my post had tried a couple of different mirrors. with problems. Now I'm out of writable media
Just need a working repo. Wondering if I am inserting correct format for repos? or if repo data is outdated?
migrating from Unraid although not a linux expert by any means.

Sorry to hear you are having issue. Could it be a connectivity problem? The Fedora repos should be fine. I use them all the time with no problems.
You could try install via USB Flash drive. Although its not supported, I have done it a few times and worked great for me. See the wiki guidance.

Forgot to ask, what kinda of system are you installing this on? Does it meet the minimum specs for Fedora/Amahi? Also, it could be a hardware issue causing you all the grief.
