Failed Express CD Installation

Postby rmcpherson1 » Sun Dec 12, 2010 5:14 pm

Tried installing using latest version of express CD and it stopped with the following error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Uledited_0. Please verify it's path and try again.

That typically indicates there is a network connectivity problem. It cannot access the repositories it needs for install.

Ensure your DHCP is enabled and try it again. Might consider booting that machine to a the Live Fedora CD to ensure it is getting through to the internet. Then if so, reboot using the Express CD.

I booted from a Live Fedora CD and had no issues with network access. Tried installing Amahi again and it stopped with the same error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Uledited_0. Please verify it's path and try again. I booted from the Fedora Live disk again, installed to the hard drive and now using the machine to access this forum. Do you have other suggestions?

There is a dependency issue with the Express CD that needs fixed. Not sure when it will be done. Recommend you try the Fedora 12 DVD install if possible.

Once the issue is corrected, we will make an announcement. The Express CD is in Beta still, so its not stable at this point. We are still working the Amahi move to Fedora 14 at this time as well, so I cannot give you an estimate as to when this might be corrected.

I get the notice of "unable to read package metadata from repository" too when trying to add the Amahi repository ( URL -> http://f12.amahi.org) during the scratch installation of Fedora 12 from a DVD iso copy.

That sounds like a connectivity issue. Do you have good internet connection? Also, is your router still serving DHCP?

If I skip the addition of the Amahi repository, Fedora completes installation and it is able to download updates, so I do have a good network connection. I have 5 windows computers, plus this machine, connected to a DSL modem/router. I wasn't planning to disabled DHCP service from the router until I got Amahi installed and running as a server on my network.

Understand. Is odd that you are having issues with the repo. You can try the manual install steps for an existing system.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Self-install-existing

I do not have an answer why you get that error. I have installed Amahi numerous times on live box and VMs with no issues. Could it be a firewall problem? Not sure, but maybe the install to existing will work for you.
