DNS returning invalid results on attached devices

Postby aarondyck » Sat Apr 25, 2020 4:35 pm

I have been using Amahi for several years and across several releases.

When I'm attempting to access some sites, intermittently, I will receive incorrect data when performing a DNS lookup on attached devices only.
Here is an nslookup performed on my server using Google DNS:
[root@localhost ~]# nslookup store.cineplex.com
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
store.cineplex.com canonical name = cineplex.a.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
cineplex.a.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net canonical name = tm.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
tm.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net canonical name = ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.8.182
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.8.82
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.11.254
And the same lookup using OpenDNS:
[root@localhost ~]# nslookup store.cineplex.com
Server: 192.168.1.10
Address: 192.168.1.10#53

Non-authoritative answer:
store.cineplex.com canonical name = cineplex.a.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
cineplex.a.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net canonical name = tm.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
tm.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net canonical name = ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net.
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.8.20
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.4.79
Name: ca-toronto.inregion.waas.oci.oraclecloud.net
Address: 192.29.8.182
When I do the same nslookup from an attached device, such as my Windows PC or an Android telephone I get the results for amahi black:
C:\Users\aaron>nslookup store.cineplex.com
Server: hda.amahi.net
Address: 192.168.1.10

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: black.amahi.org
Address: 66.165.251.198
Aliases: store.cineplex.com.amahi.net
Any ideas why the information that the server provides is different from the information it provides to clients?

Not sure if this helps, but another user had a similar problem.

See this post.
