Hi,
Even after unticking both monitor and boot start check boxes, and clicking the 'stop now' icon of the DHCP server in the control panel, the service is always running again after a restart, even though the checkboxes are still unticked.
I can't run the server 24/7, so the inbuilt DHCP isn't going to work for me. How can I kill it completely, since using two is going to cause a problem, isn't it?
DHCP always restarts
Re: DHCP always restarts
oh - this is a bug! can you file a bug in the bug tracker?
(same login credentials as here in the forums)
dhcpd is initated by hdactl, which ought to check if dhcp is not meant to be on!
thanks!

Re: DHCP always restarts
I am still having this same issue. DHCP still turns itself on, despite not being enabled in the check boxes. I want my smoothwall delving out IPs and DNS.. not the Amahi box, and it is causing me major grief. Was this fixed as indicated in the bug tracker??
I am running:
Platform: 5.1-1
Core: 3.1-3

Re: DHCP always restarts
You have to turn the service off and also turn off the monitor.
Here is the turn off dhcp page, explaining it in detail.
This is due to the levels of fault tolerance we have built in, so it's designed to be hard to be stopped permanently.

Re: DHCP always restarts
I wanted to test this out for myself but I dont have the option to turn of DHCP under apps->servers
Any thoughts on why it isn't showing up there? Advanced settings is turned on.

Re: DHCP always restarts
how did you install?
standard or fedora first + then amahi?
i think the non-standard way does not create the servers area properly.
executing this may bring them up ...
/var/hda/platform/html/script/install-servers

By the way, I did install it the standard way and added Amahi repository during the install of Fedora 12.

Re: DHCP always restarts
thanks for the replies... I did do a clean install following the recommended clean install of fedora, and adding the amahi package during install. I have also unchecked the montoring and restart at reboot. What stumps me is I can get the DNS service to stop and not restart via the monitoring service after I uncheck those two boxes.. but the DHCP service still restarts it self automatically.
Kind of stumped on this one. It almost seems like the monitor is still checking for the DHCP service to be running, despite the check box being unchecked for DHCP. It seems like this may still be a bug despite it being marked as 100% complete in the bug tracker?

Re: DHCP always restarts
there are two bugs here:
- jOOc could not see servers, though he installed normally (we have seen this occasionally - not sure why!?!?!)
- you (rockstrongo) cannot seem to stop it despite all the attempts
for the 1st one, if you jOOc could file a bug, it'd be great.
for rockstrongo, please reopen the bug and add details on it:
- check /var/log/monit to see if monit is the one restarting it
- attach the output of chkconf | grep dhcp
- check in /var/log/messages
