Here is another example, firstly nslookup on the server
[root@amahinet Tighernain]# nslookup aminet.org
Server: 192.168.1.10
Address: 192.168.1.10#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: aminet.org
Address: 185.53.177.30
and the same nslookup on a client
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> nslookup aminet.org
Server: amahi.amahi.net
Address: 192.168.1.10
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: black.amahi.org
Address: 208.115.201.203
Aliases: aminet.org.amahi.net
now the same nslookup on the same client but with a . added after .org
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> nslookup aminet.org.
Server: amahi.amahi.net
Address: 192.168.1.10
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: aminet.org
Address: 185.53.177.30
Many Thanks for all the help.

Hmm. I cannot replicate that here. The only other suggestion I have is restarting your DNS server:
Code: Select all
hda-ctl-hup
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1

Yep its a weird problem. I have seen other instances reported on the internet with various different platforms so I suspect its a general networking problem. Unfortunately i have not yet found a solution. I will try restarting the DNS server next.

OK restarted the DNS server but no change.
Bit of a search on the internet revealed it could be a wild card issue?

Basically, the source that your DNS server is using does not seem to know about the root domain. There is some data about your setup that makes it hard to diagnose.
