If you get it sorted out, maybe you can add some guidance to the wiki regarding Amahi install with RAID for other users.

This is always a weak area in our community and would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking something might be wrong with the way I chown...

having a hard time getting the group concept. looking at /etc/group I see that the username used on the hda is only part of the wheel group. But not root. is this normal?

Yes I believe that's normal. There is a root group as well which is for the root user.

If there is anything I can help with, please let me know.

So,

today I did a fresh install, with the disks of the raid array unplugged. Left all the shares by default after the install, basically left everything by defaults, and I could not access the shares at all, same issues as when the shares were on the raid array.

Made me think that the issue lied somewhere else, then it hit me.

I have a second router, between the main router and a PC that acts as a WIFI extender. I bypassed it and I was able to connect to the shares.

I created a test share on the RAID and I can connect to it no problem.

I later reconnected the router/extender and it all works fine now.

Ah, self induced pain.

Glad you got it sorted out. Will close this thread as solved.
