Guest Wifi

Postby rdagijones » Wed Apr 13, 2016 9:21 am

I am using an Amahi 8 / Fedora 21 HDA in a public space for a ministry. We want to set up a Guest Network / Wifi for our visitors. I have Cisco E2000 routers in the building with DD-WRT installed. I want to follow the following tutorial (http://www.alexlaird.com/2013/03/dd-wrt-guest-wireless/) but it speaks of having multiple DHCP servers. I have DHCP disabled on the routers and enabled on Amahi. Is there a way to have a guest wifi in our building with an Amahi HDA?

I don't believe this is possible.

Your best bet is to use the router for DHCP and WiFi Guest access. You can point the router DNS server to the HDA for DNS which should allow the apps to work using the long name.

See the Amahi FAQ for details on what capabilities will be limited.

I know that disabling DHCP was irreversible in previous Amahi versions, short of rebuilding the server. Is that still so? I want the users to know what they are getting into before I disable DHCP on Amahi.

No, since Amahi 7 (Fedora 19) this is done via the Dashboard UI.

See turning off DHCP server in the wiki.
