RESOLVED: Can't reach plex.tv when under HDA DNS

Postby irishxlink » Fri Oct 03, 2014 6:20 am

Hi Everyone, i am having a bit of an odd problem. I can't seem to navigate to plex.tv or https://plex.tv when i am under the HDA DNS. If i restart my server and refresh my client computer to get an ip address from my router then i can get to it but when I am under the HDA DNS i get redirected to the hda login screen. http://plex.tv/user_sessions/new

The same thing happens with other random strings that are not in the http.d/01-platform.conf file. For example i fully expect "search", "setup", "home" and "help" to redirect to the main hda login however there are others such as "hello" that almost get redirected. "Almost" meaning that in Chrome i get the drop down that says "Did you mean to go to http://hello ?" If i click it then i get redirected to the hda login screen. These messages and redirects havn't been an issue, i just ignore it and go on my way however but since i can no longer access plex.tv i can't access any of the sub directory including forums and downloading the new clients. This doesn't just have issues with accessing websites either. When i try to sign in with a plex client on my network i can't access it either so i can't access my queue.

To give a full background i should say that i did have a "plex" web app that redirected to hda:32400/web so that when i wanted to change settings or access the plex server interface i could just type plex into a web browser. However even when i had this i didn't have an issue accessing plex.tv.

Since i noticed this issue i have since removed the web app and the conf files from the httpd directory and i have also deleted the dns record of "plex" however i am still having the issue. Any direction into this would be appreciated.

Finally Got it fixed.

It turns out that the .tv extension was conflicting with a web app that i had created. I made a "tv" web app to house the MthtvWeb configuration to set recordings. http://tv would go to the website setup with mythtv so that i could pick the shows i wanted to record. However because of the web app there was a dns alias in the system pointing "tv" to my HDA servers ip address.

My network was reading plex.tv as a subdomain of the tv web app and was trying to direct it toward my HDA ip address instead of the correct plex.tv ip address.

Once i removed the DNS entry from my HDA http://hda (hda>setup>network>DNS Aliases>tv>delete) everything worked just find.

So if you have a similar issue take a look at the extension of the website you are trying to get to and make sure you dont have a webapp with that as its name.
