File Transfer at ~2MB/s

Postby aslange » Sun Sep 28, 2014 7:37 am

Hello!

I'm having some trouble to the slower file transfer rate.
It is about 2 MB/s when i'm trying to transfer from my Notebook with Win7 to the Amahi 7 server.
I'm trying to transfer multiple files.

I read another threads related but I cannot fully identify what is the problem.
I already Tried to change the network cables (they are CAT5 e) without any success.
I read about my NIC (it's a Realtek PCI r8168) and many threads tells to perform a downgrade in my installed driver (with is r8169).
In order to do that, since I accessing the server through ssh, every time I try to install the r8168 driver my connection is lost and since i'm using Amahi DHCP all my internet connection is lost and only returns after i restart my server (manually).

I tried to perform the downgrade with an keyboard and an monitor attached to the server, but Amahi does not recognizes my keyboard anymore.
I even cannot change the boot option in boot loader! (it keeps initializing the Fedora 19 (Schrödinger's cat))
I changed the GRUB file through ssh connection but when the server starts it selects Fedora 19 but it shows that it loaded Fedora 19 (Schrödinger's cat).

Could someone help me?
There is something more to do in order recover the previous state and just downgrade the NIC driver?

I need to transfer my files to the server (it's about 300 GB), but with this transfer speed it will take forever :(

Hello aslange

What is the CPU you have in your server?

Also are you using the onboard NIC? I would suggest to buy a gigbit NIC and use that.
Proxmox Server: Currently Not Running Amahi
CPU: AMD FX 6100 Six Core
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 4x1TB RAID10 (Adaptec)

My CPU:

Code: Select all

# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep CPU model name : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 430 @ 1.80GHz
Yes I'm using the onboard NIC.
I'll make some tests with a TP-Link TG-3269 Gigabit PCI NIC that I bought.

I'll share the results later.

Thank You!

My guess is you may need a CPU upgrade aswell

Why do you think that?

My Server configuration meets Amahi minimal hardware requirements:

CPU 1.8 GHz
7 GB Hard Disk
1.5 GB RAM

Yes that's correct, minimal.

Amahi does not promise Gigabit speeds though. That is, (mainly) a hardware requirement. So amahi will still work not a problem. But I think to get the full gigabit speeds you will need better hardware.

That's my guess. Try it and find out. That way, you will know for sure.
