This happened because you reinstalled Samba. Never a good idea to take such drastic measures until you understand what went wrong.

To correct this, try the following as root user:

Code: Select all

yum reinstall amahi-greyhole
This should reinstall the missing pieces that Greyhole needs for Samba. Recommend in future when you have problems, submit a bug report or post here before taking action.

Have you done OS updates?
Not to my knowledge. Doing updates nerfed my Amahi 6 Ubuntu 12.04 install, so I'm probably not going to update this unless it's absolutely necessary.

THanks Bigfoot, a reinstall of greyhole solved the problem. I will however remain interested to learn how I can use VNC without breaking Samba. Merry Christmas!

Do you have a slow internet connection? Might try running this command first:

Code: Select all

yum install @gnome tigervnc-server
If there is any errors, don't install the app yet via the dashboard. Post any issues and we will go from there.

Those packages take some time to install which may be part of the issue. Try installing it again. Monitor the app installer log for errors. If it still doesn't work, you can easily put things back.

Also might consider doing an OS update before trying the reinstall. It should not break anything and best to have security updates installed.

It's supposed to be 100 mbps down, but it's Time Warner so....

I'm updating it right now. After that I'll try yum install @gnome tigervnc-server

Ok, Samba is working. :-) Haven't tried re-installing VNC just yet, but I'm cool just working from the CLI for now.

Ok. Glad things are still working. VNC is nice if you really need it, but I prefer command line mostly myself.

Servers are intended to be headless. If you decide to try it, please let us know how it goes.

For the most part I'm a fan of the command line as well. It's just that I'm in the middle of getting my CCNA, so I have a very different set of commands in my mind. lol
