BTW, just did a fresh install of Amahi 7 and VNC. Although VNC did not install the first time, I did a second install after clearing the browser cache and it worked.
I an guessing due to the amount of packages needed for install, it takes too long and times out. Anyway, it installed perfectly the second go around and Samba is not broken. I also installed Firefox and all works fine.
Might suggest you try this again, using my experience as a guide.

Re: Samba won't start
If you can provide details, we might be able to assist. How did you install? Express CD or other media. Have you checked logs for errors? What is the specific issue and can you describe the steps that led to the problem?

Re: Samba won't start
I'm having the same issue and had the idea to try and re-install samba and received the following error:
I'm not sure how they got there, but RPM Fusion free and non-free are installed and I have no recollection installing them myself. When I installed VNC it was the first app I had installed aside from what comes with Amahi.Error: Rpmdb checksum is invalid: pkg checksums: tigervnc-server-0:1.3.0-10.fc19.x86_64
Re: Samba won't start
Need to diagnose issue vs reinstalling samba.
Check Amahi app installer log for errors. The RPM Fusion apps are most likely a dependency for the VNC app. I will have to verify.
Might be best to submit a bug report.

I ran the following:
and the only error mentioned in the log file is:cat /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log |more

I get:systemctl status smb

Re: Samba won't start
Have you tried uninstalling VNC? Then reboot and reinstall.

Yes. I have uninstalled and removed the one click VNC app via the dashboard and restarted.

Re: Samba won't start
I had the same issue. I just upgraded from Amahi 6 on Ubuntu to Amahi 7, using the Express DVD. Initally everything was fine until I tried to install VNC app. This failed, but nevertheless broke Samba. And only then did I stumble upon this thread. So I cleared the browser, reinstalled VNC from the dashboard, removed VNC from the dashboard, rebooted a couple of times and luckily Samba was up-and-running again after that. But still something is wrong, because now I can no longer access the shares that have been enabled by Greyhole, but I do have access to shares that are not part of the Greyhole pool. When I checked the Greyhole log I noticed the following: "Greyhole VFS module for Samba was missing, or the wrong version for your Samba." Anyone any ideas how to resolve this?
