Using Amahi DNS causes timeouts and high ping?

Postby inquam » Mon Apr 14, 2014 6:58 am

I have been wrestling with a real strange issue for a long time. Tried everything but now I have narrowed it down.
If I use my Amahi as my DNS server my local computers ping to 8.8.8.8 for example skyrockets at times (and even timeouts).
Manually setting another DNS on my local machine (8.8.8.8 or some OpenDNS server) and the problem goes away.

Anyone know what could be causing this? My Amahi used OpenDNS but changed that to my router to test which in turn get DNS server info from my ISP. But no difference.

I presume this is Amahi 6.

Maybe check /etc/resolve.conf to see what it includes. I have never had an issue myself.

Nope, this should be Amahi 7...

/etc/resolve.conf does not exist

If it does not exist, you have issues.

It exists on my Amahi 7 install, but as /etc/resolv.conf.

Sorry for the typo :)

Haha, I must have been so lazy to just copy instead of typing myself :P... Here's the content

.66 is the ip of my HDA

Looks normal to me. Not sure what could be causing issues.

The HDA itself didn't seem to have any issues it was just clients connected to it. Seems it's sometimes triggered by a smartphone or something connecting to the network.
Changing the DNS of an affected client to 8.8.8.8 for instance and the problem goes away.

I changed from the default dns settings on the HDA to a static one provided by my ISP yesterday and the issue might have been resolved.

Ah. So you set the DNS on the HDA to your ISP versus OpenDNS?
