Can't disable DNS Server

Postby whaites » Mon Dec 23, 2013 6:35 pm

I'm having issues with my server - at least one drive issue I'm trying to sort, but possibly more problems. Currently, my server is way to crashy to use as a DNS server, so I disabled it in the dash board. I unchecked watchdog and unchecked the auto start option, then stopped the service. However, every time my server reboots (which unfortunately has been frequently), the DNS Server restarts and causes headaches on my network.

Is there a command to force this service to stay stopped?

About my setup: I'm using Amahi 7 (64 bit) from an express install cd, but I did do a yum update after the install. I did have issues with Amahi hanging on a black screen after clicking the complete button during express install - it never did the auto-restart. This is my second round of installs with express cd 7, and I've had this same problem each time (which is why I knew a yum command to update amahi). It did seem like things were working until I ran into drive issues, but I have not finished getting greyhole running or my apps reinstalled.

Why would you want to disable it? If you are having problems with the DNS on the HDA, it may mean a bad install or you have something set incorrectly.

To properly disable it, you have to do so via Settings in the Network tab. The servers tab DNS server is actually more than just the DNS Server. Messing with that could cause problems.

There is a bug filed about it, but for now recommend if you must disable it do it as mentioned above.

Are you using the HDA for DHCP sever? If so, recommend not turning off the DNS. It should work fine together unless something was not properly configured.
