I've been using my Amahi server for years without an issue. I went away for a few days and used my transmission server like always. When we got to the hotel, I wanted to download the file I downloaded at home so I used my tablet to start downloading it. The hotel wifi was terrible so it wouldn't download so I said screw it and gave up. I tried connecting to transmission again and it wouldn't connect. I tried on my phone over 4g and it still didn't work, just timed out. I was also unable to ftp via ssh or ssh directly. I figured it needed a reboot or the network cable came out so I put it in the back of my mind until I got home. So, I just got home and started messing with it.

Basically, it seems like the ethernet connection can't hold itself anymore. I try to ping google from the server and it takes forever but will say like 10ms even though it took seconds to show. I cannot ssh into it from my network, it's too slow and won't connect. I can't connect to transmission or anything else. Sometimes when I try pinging from my server out to a web site it will say not found. I use my hda as my dns server, and I can't go to any web site anymore. The only reason I can type this out is I bypassed my hda in my router so I'm just using my router as dns and dhcp. I know it's not my Internet connection because, like I said, I can bypass it and it works fine.

I thought it was a dying drive so I commented out all of my drives in fstab and rebooted and even unplugged all but the system drive, same thing. It just seems like the connection my server is getting now is null.

I seriously need some help guys. I'm running Amahi 6 live, it's been running perfect for YEARS and I have NO IDEA why it's doing this.

Could be many things. What OS are you using? Also did you check log files for errors?

Amahi 6 live, so I think that's Fedora 12. What log file? I checked /var/log/messages and there's just a bunch of link up and down errors. I really need help with this.

That seems to be the last thing in the list before it just says eth0 up and down for 3 days while I was away.

Is it possible the network card went bad? We do not support Fedora 12 any longer and you may be the only one still using it

Suggest you check your hardware to see if that is the issue. A Live CD may help.

Close. I was downloading a live cd to try that before you said anything and I was messing with it while it was downloading. Turns out either my gigabit switch it's plugged into or the cable went bad. I made a new cable and plugged it into my router (router went to switch and everything is in that) and now it's fine. I have no idea what it's doing but it's working fine now so, whatever.

Good to hear. Always nice when it's a inexpensive cable versus more costly hardware or time needed to reload and recover.
