As I said I installed the app VNC. So should I disable Vino? And then run:

Code: Select all

sudo service vncserver start
with any issues appearing straight in the terminal?

I know you installed the app, was just pointing out that it does not use Vino. Not sure if having Vino installed matters, but you could stop it as a precaution.

Then do the vncserver stop and start command, noting any output. It may not show any issues, but hoping if there is a problem that it does.

This is what I did and got as a result:

http://pastebin.com/sv8MbPnQ

Then I tried to kill display 4 and got the following:

Code: Select all

achmetinternet@monster:~$ vncserver -kill :4 Killing Xvnc4 process ID 2613 achmetinternet@monster:~$ vncserver :4 A VNC server is already running as :4 achmetinternet@monster:~$ vncserver start VNC4 server Usage: vncserver [<OPTIONS>] [:<DISPLAY#>] vncserver -kill :<DISPLAY#> <OPTIONS> are Xvnc4 options, or: -name <DESKTOP-NAME> -depth <DEPTH> -geometry <WIDTH>x<HEIGHT> -httpport number -basehttpport number -alwaysshared -nevershared -pixelformat rgb<NNN> -pixelformat bgr<NNN> <Xvnc4-options>... See vnc4server and Xvnc4 manual pages for more information.

I believe vncserver is started as root. So you would need to do:

Code: Select all

sudo vncserver stop sudo vncserver start
If that does not work, then we will have to regroup and try to figure out what else can be done. I have not heard of anyone having issues lately, so not sure where to look next.

I get this:

Code: Select all

achmetinternet@monster:~$ sudo vncserver stop vncserver: Wrong type or access mode of /home/achmetinternet/.vnc.

This gave me

Code: Select all

root@monster:/home/achmetinternet# sudo service vncserver stop Shutting down VNCServer: 4:achmetinternet VNCServer Stopped
but then

Code: Select all

root@monster:/home/achmetinternet# sudo service vncserver start Starting VNC server: 4:achmetinternet xauth: /home/achmetinternet/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored New 'monster:4 (achmetinternet)' desktop is monster:4 Starting applications specified in /home/achmetinternet/.vnc/xstartup Log file is /home/achmetinternet/.vnc/monster:4.log
Somehow I cannot copy the log file...maybe because it is a symlink?

Check the permissions on /home/achmetinternet/.Xauthority. Ensure it is chmod 777 and owned by your first admin user. That may be the issue.

Wonderful, you are my hero!

But I will open up another issue with regards to Adito. Opening up another thread now.

EDIT: the connection via VNC seems wicked slow. Any idea what might be causing this?

Hard to say as it could be many things. A reboot might help.
