DNS Problem

Postby tchristensen » Sat Apr 06, 2013 2:34 pm

Hello,

First of all, LOVE this new server.!!!

One problem I am having is that my home domain, troypoint.net does not work. The only way I can access the setup page is by using http://hda. I didnt' touch my router at all before, during. or after installation. Maybe I need to do something in there??

I know that my network is using the server as the DHCP client as I cannot access Internet from any of my computers when server is shut off.

Any helps is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for nice setup. Wish I would have switched to this a long time ago!!

Recommend you run the network troubleshooter.

Using the Network Troubleshooter, I failed step 4 - DNS resolving for internal hostnames. Here's a paste to help troubleshoot: http://sprunge.us/SGMC

This shows your HDA IP address the same as the router:
Step 1: Your HDA IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 2: Your HDA domain name is troypoint.net
Step 3: Your router IP address is 192.168.1.1
Step 4: Your HDA DNS server is NOT working fine for local hostnames.
The next area shows it as:
root@amahi:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
search troypoint.net
nameserver 192.168.1.10

root@amahi:~# ifconfig | grep -A 5 eth0 | grep inet
inet addr:192.168.1.10 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: 2002:3253:1c3d:0:c5d6:9242:2a7c:90a1/64 Scope:Global
inet6 addr: 2002:3253:1c3d:0:21f:d0ff:fed0:6ba3/64 Scope:Global
inet6 addr: fe80::21f:d0ff:fed0:6ba3/64 Scope:Link
So I am confused. Does your credentials for the HDA on amahi.org match your intended settings? Have you rebooted the HDA after install and/or renewed the DHCP lease on the clients after changing DHCP to the HDA?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I don't know why it says the same address for both my network and HDA. My HDA is actually .110 and it works when I put that into my browser. Yes, have restarted a lot as I have already added all drives. Also have renewed ip. There is an alert in my amahi console that says alert new ip address. Don't know if that matters or not.

Sorry, don't understand this network stuff very much.

I haven't touched any settings in my router. Should I turn off DHCP in router?

Don't want to reinstall amahi as I have everything the way I want it. 6 drives in Greyhole, etc.

Thanks again for your help!!!

Yes your router DHCP should be off. Then renew IP address on your clients.

Thanks. Tried that still doesn't work. Seems like my network is all messed up now. One thing I just remembered. When I first setup Amahi, I did it over my wireless card on my server and now I am plugged into hard wire. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Is there any tutorial that I can use to rebuild this network from scratch? Or, maybe I should just reinstall and start over. ughhh.

Thanks.

If you did not start with a wired network, then you need to start over. The hardware requirements stipulate the need for a hard wired connection or things will not work correctly.

https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Requirements

If you had installed it, but used wireless client to configure then it should be ok. It may be the two DHCP servers running at the same time has things all confused.

You could shut down your entire network, then start it back up with the HDA being the first machine powered up. Then once it's ready, power up any clients.
