I have an apple time capsule. When i go to turn of DHCP, i lose my internet connection. I can still connect to the server and everything, but not the internet. Am i doing something wrong?

chances are that perhaps the router address or the network address as set in your HDAs profile probably do not match that of your actual network.

can you double check that?

also, try the network troubleshooter.

I know i am missing something, i just don't know what and it is extremely irritating. From what i can tell, the settings are all right, but it still isn't working. Are there some sort of step by step directions for doing this?

at what step do things stop working?

Due to the time right now, i am to lazy to go open a terminal window and check right now, but i would guess it is step 2.3 becuase i can see the server but cannot access the outside world.

are you able to reach the internet from the server?
and could you draw a little diagram of your network setup, this would make an analysis a lot easier.

Another good thing to check is if the DHCP you are turning off is on the LAN side and not the WAN side, there is a difference.

If it says DHCP WAN, that needs to stay on, if it says DHCP Server, that needs to be off, after you have done that restart the HDA once again and renew the ip leases on your clients and you will be all set.
