SOLVED:VPN connects OK, but no Internet Access on the client

No problem connecting, via VPN, from client to server and I can see the hda on the client.
However I cannot access the Internet, via the VPN, on the client.
On a previous installation, on a different computer, and running in a virtual box,
all worked well both locally and at a remote location.
Router IP
LAN 192.168.178.1
(All LAN connections are fixed IPs)
Amahi Server (Eee PC701 (4G) running Ubuntu server with LXDE desktop)
LAN IP 192.168.178.23
VPN IP 10.8.0.1
Client (EeePC 901 running Xubuntu 12.04)
LAN IP 192.168.178.25 (when local)
VPN IP 10.8.0.6
From the client I can ping the server on:-
192.168.178.23
10.8.0.1
If I try
ping bbc.co.uk
It shows the IP on the BBC site on the next line but no reply.
So, in summary: The VPN works but I can't access the Internet, on the client, via the VPN.
Please can someone advise?
