My HDA lost the NAMED.CONF file ...

Postby darkman1964 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 12:25 am

hi everybody,

in my network i can´t access the hda-apps by using its names. examples "clipperz.home.com" doesn´t work. if i make some entires in my hosts-file on windows 7 -client it works, but this is not a smart solution. so i tried to solve the problem by using the "interactive amahi network troubleshooter".

here is the result: http://sprunge.us/AERE

first problem:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: hda
Address: 67.215.65.132

the shown adress is not the external and not the internal ip-adress. what ip-adress is this ?

second problem :

oliver@server2:~$ sudo service named status
named: unrecognized service

oliver@server2:~$ sudo cat /etc/named.conf
cat: /etc/named.conf: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

i don´t know whats the meaning of this service, but it looks this is the one which causes my network problems.

any idea for a solution ?

oliver

(my hda runs on ubuntu 12.04 with the latest ubuntu-updates)

I would say to start from a stable environment. Shut down your entire network, then turn on modem, router, and HDA. Once the HDA appears to be working then turn on the clients.

Next I would recommend you check out the network troubleshooter.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Network_troubleshooting

I have seen instances where the network gets all confused and a complete shutdown restores order. Give it a shot.

Which OS are you running?
F14 or Ubuntu 12.04?

What do you get from: ps -e|grep named ?

The title of your message says you lost /etc/named.conf. Is this true?

I know that this is generated by hdactl, but I don't know how to do this. Anyone else familiar with hdactl?

Is this a fresh installation, or did something change? If this is a fresh install, perhaps a re-install is in order?

Sorry, I'm just looking for ideas.

hi ,

@bigfoot65: after "reset" my network as you told me, everything is fine. the file seems not to be "named.conf" necessary. i uninstalled every "unnecessary" app.

@radioz: as you can see in my first post i´m using ubuntu 12.04 :D

this is what i got:
oliver@server2:/var/hda/web-apps/ipsec-vpn$ ps -e|grep named
12832 ? 00:00:07 named

yes, can´t find the file "named.conf" (nowhere on the server).

the installation is about 7 weeks old.

now i got a new problem: vpn-server (ipsec or openvpn) installation works out-of-the-box, but server will not start (setup-menu). i will post this at VPN-Topic.

Check the app install logs in /var/log folder for errors.
